3.3 Writing Effective Prompts

A helpful prompt is:

  • Be Clear Describe your request in direct, unambiguous language so the chatbot understands the task you're asking it to perform.
  • Be Specific Identify the exact filings, companies, insurance types, documents, sections, data points, or time ranges you want the system to focus on.
  • Be Outcome-Focused Specify the format and structure of the output, such as a table with defined columns, a structured summary, a comparison, or a list of key insights. The more detail you provide about the desired result, the more likely the output will match your expectations.
  • Add Constraints When Needed Include any limits on length, depth, areas of emphasis, or elements to exclude to ensure the response aligns with what you need.
