SERFF (System for Electronic Rate and Form Filing) The platform used by insurance companies to submit product filings to state regulators.
SERFF Tracking Number A unique identifier assigned to each filing submitted through SERFF.
Filing Package The full collection of documents submitted for approval, including forms, supporting materials, correspondence, and marketing materials.
Disposition The final regulatory decision on a filing (e.g., Approved, Approved with Conditions, Rejected).
Objection A regulator's request for clarification or correction within a filing, usually requiring a written response and updated documents.
Correspondence Communication exchanged between the regulator and the filer, usually containing objections, questions, or required modifications.
Insurance Compact (IIPRC) The Interstate Insurance Product Regulation Commission — a unified body that allows certain filings to be submitted once and approved across participating states.
Line of Insurance A high-level product category required for filtering and classification (e.g., Life, Health).
Market Type Breakdown by individual / group
Product Type / Category A more specific classification within a line of insurance (e.g., Whole Life, Term Life, UL, Deferred Annuity).
Document Type A classification assigned to each document within a filing (e.g., forms, supporting materials, actuarial memos, correspondence, marketing materials). Document Type helps organize filing packages, improves search filters, and lets you quickly identify the purpose of each file inside a submission.
Document Text Search A meaning-based search feature that locates similar or related language within filing documents, not just exact keyword matches.
State Variation Differences in regulatory requirements, product features, or language needed for a policy to be approved in a specific state.
Policy Template A standardized base document used to generate new policies with consistent structure and language.
Chat with Documents A feature that allows users to upload and analyze their own documents using AI, including filings, policies, or drafts not available through SERFF.
Reviewer The regulator assigned to evaluate a filing and issue objections or approval.
Submission Date The date a filing was submitted for review.
Disposition Date The date the regulator issued the final decision on the filing.
